Ricky’s Year-End Letter (2025)

Dear friends,

As we come to the end of 2025, I’m too aware of how heavy life feels for many of us. Rising costs, economic uncertainty, and global instability have created real strain – for families, communities, and for many of us personally. While this affects everyone, it hits heaviest on our friends who are already living on the margins, especially children and youth. In the Downtown Eastside, we see this every day. Children carry around more stress than they should. Families are forced to make impossible choices. The need for safe, steady, and joyful spaces has only grown.

But this is not the whole story.

Another reality I’m seeing, at Promise Vancouver and in the community around us, is one of generosity, courage, and hope. In a year marked by disruption and change, people have responded by leaning in. Staff have stayed faithful through transitions. Our Young Leaders have shown up with energy and care. Our Promise Partners have invested and sown generously, even in such times. Because of this, programs continue. Children are smiling. Laughter still fills our space. Youth are stepping in and realizing their potential. The work continues because love is stronger than fear.

As we look ahead to 2026, your year-end gift helps ensure that hope-filled presence remains. Promise Vancouver will continue offering safe, life-giving spaces where children and youth can experience belonging, stability, and joy, even through uncertain times.

Thank you for being part of this story. I’m so grateful to be walking this road together!

With gratitude,

Ricky Lee
Executive Director
