Theory of Change

reach a child • raise a leader • restore community

Our approach is centred around the power of intergenerational community, with the goal that every child and youth will find security in knowing they’re valuable and loved. At Promise, young people find a place of belonging and purpose: children are making friends and learning self-regulation skills, youth take on deeply meaningful leadership roles, and the whole community benefits, both immediately and in the long run.

Our Roots

Promise Vancouver is an independently operating registered charity in the heart of Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. We originally began as an expression of UrbanPromise, the Camden, NJ-based organization that first articulated our simple but profound theory of change: “Reach a Child, Raise a Leader, Restore Community”.

The Christian commitment to love all people through meaningful relationships drives our mission: to journey with children and youth, helping them discover their inherent value. We foster safe, inclusive spaces where young people are seen, supported, and empowered to grow, regardless of their background. Our programming is non-religious and designed for children and youth from all faith (or non-faith) backgrounds.
